Who we are
Parity is an independent editorial publication that researches and reports on ownership in the home services industry. The site is published from New York. Our editorial inbox is hello@parityops.com.
Editorial nature of the site
Information published on Parity, including the Ownership Record, the contractor directory, and editorial articles, is a journalistic product. Ownership Record entries and company ownership pages are sourced from public records and company-published material, with the sources shown on the page. Editorial articles reflect the author's direct professional experience and are labelled as such. We make no legal claims. We are not lawyers and the content on this site is not legal advice.
We strive for accuracy and we publish corrections promptly when factual errors are identified. See our corrections policy for the process to challenge an entry.
User-submitted content
When you submit a tip, complaint, application, invoice, or any other content through forms on the site (collectively, "Submissions"), the following terms apply:
You grant us a license to publish
You grant Parity a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, redact, edit, translate, and publish your Submission in connection with the Parity editorial mission. You retain ownership of your Submission. We will not sell or sublicense your Submission to third parties for commercial purposes.
You make these promises
By submitting, you represent that:
- You have the right to submit the content (you authored it, or you have permission to share it).
- The content is true to the best of your knowledge.
- The content does not violate anyone's privacy, copyright, or other legal rights.
- You authorize us to redact personally identifying information before publishing.
What we do with submissions
- Tips: We verify against public records before publishing. Sources are kept confidential unless you give us explicit written permission to credit you.
- Complaints: We send your complaint to the company it is about. The details are never published; a company’s page shows only how many complaints were filed and how many were made right.
- Applications: Reviewed for verification. If listed, your business profile and your intro video or photo become publicly visible on the directory. You may request removal at any time.
- Invoices and receipts: Used only to confirm that a complaint relates to real work. Not published.
What you cannot submit
You agree not to submit:
- Content you know to be false.
- Content that infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property.
- Content that defames any person or business beyond what public records can substantiate.
- Personal information about people other than yourself (other than what is necessary to identify the business being discussed).
- Malicious code or spam.
The Parity Verified badge
Only the business it was issued to may show the badge, only while that business is verified, and always linked to its Parity page. The badge cannot be bought. It comes down if the owner sells to an investment group, if the business stops meeting Parity’s standards, or if the badge is misused.
Using Parity's research
You may read, share, and link to anything on Parity. You may also quote our ownership records — who owns a company, when it changed hands, whether it names its owner — in articles, posts, research, and conversations, as long as you credit Parity and link to the page the information came from.
Search engines and AI assistants are welcome to index Parity and cite it in their answers, with a link back to the source page.
You need our written permission to:
- Republish substantial portions of the site or of our data files.
- Use Parity's data in bulk in a commercial product, database, lead list, ranking, directory, or service, including reselling it or merging it into another directory or dataset.
- Copy the Ownership Record, the company pages, or the data files, in whole or in substantial part, by any means, to build, train, or fill a product or publication that competes with Parity.
To ask, email hello@parityops.com. Research and journalism requests are usually a yes.
You may not misrepresent the site or its content (for example, by framing it or impersonating Parity), or use it to harass any person or business.
Copyright and the record
Facts belong to no one, and every page here links its sources so that anyone can check them and reach the same facts. Parity's record of those facts is ours. The selection of companies, the checking of each entry, the wording of every summary, label, and page, the arrangement of the record, and the data files are original work, © Parity, protected by United States copyright law as a compilation and as written work. These terms give you the permission to quote and cite described above, and nothing more.
Parity's pages and data files carry identifying features that survive copying, reformatting, and editing. A copy of the record can be traced to this site however it has been cleaned up, and we keep dated copies of everything we publish. Where the record has been taken without permission, that evidence will be used.
Automated access
Crawlers that index the site for search, or that answer questions with a link back to the page, are welcome; robots.txt says so. Any other automated use — bulk downloading, scraping the pages or the data files into a database, repeated requests made to copy the record, or access that ignores robots.txt — is not allowed without written permission. The data files under /data/ are published so that the record can be cited and studied. Downloading them is not permission to republish them.
These terms apply to anyone who uses the site by any means: with or without a browser, directly or through a tool, agent, or service acting for them.
Disclaimers
Parity is provided "as is." We make no warranty that the site will be available without interruption or error-free. The contractor directory is a curated list, listing or non-listing is not a guarantee of competence, suitability, or trustworthiness. Hiring decisions are your own responsibility.
Any decision you make based on Parity content, including hiring or not hiring a contractor, filing or not filing a complaint, taking or not taking other action, is your own decision. We are an information source, not a professional advisor.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Parity and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site. Direct damages, if any, are limited to the amount you have paid Parity (which, for homeowners, is zero).
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Parity from any claims arising from your Submissions, your use of the site, or your violation of these Terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any dispute arising under these terms must be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York. Parity may ask a court to stop unauthorized copying or use of the record, in addition to any other remedy.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. The "Effective" date at the top will be updated when we do. Continued use of the site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
