Terms of Use
By using parityops.com, you agree to the terms below. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Who we are
Parity is an independent editorial publication that researches and reports on ownership in the home services industry. The site is published from New York. Our editorial inbox is hello@parityops.com.
Editorial nature of the site
Information published on Parity โ including the Wall of Shame, the contractor directory, and editorial articles โ is a journalistic product. All published statements are sourced from public records, company-published material, and information submitted to us in good faith. We make no legal claims. We are not lawyers and the content on this site is not legal advice.
We strive for accuracy and we publish corrections promptly when factual errors are identified. See our corrections policy for the process to challenge an entry.
User-submitted content
When you submit a tip, complaint, application, invoice, or any other content through forms on the site (collectively, "Submissions"), the following terms apply:
You grant us a license to publish
You grant Parity a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, redact, edit, translate, and publish your Submission in connection with the Parity editorial mission. You retain ownership of your Submission. We will not sell or sublicense your Submission to third parties for commercial purposes.
You make these promises
By submitting, you represent that:
- You have the right to submit the content (you authored it, or you have permission to share it).
- The content is true to the best of your knowledge.
- The content does not violate anyone's privacy, copyright, or other legal rights.
- You authorize us to redact personally identifying information before publishing.
What we do with submissions
- Tips: We verify against public records before publishing. Sources are kept confidential unless you give us explicit written permission to credit you.
- Complaints: We may publish summary information from your complaint as part of our public-record reporting, with personal details redacted.
- Applications: Reviewed for verification. If listed, your business profile and owner intro video become publicly visible on the directory. You may request removal at any time.
- Invoices: May be published as part of the price-transparency database, redacted, and only with your explicit consent at the time of submission.
What you cannot submit
You agree not to submit:
- Content you know to be false.
- Content that infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property.
- Content that defames any person or business beyond what public records can substantiate.
- Personal information about people other than yourself (other than what is necessary to identify the business being discussed).
- Malicious code or spam.
Your use of the site
You may read, share, and link to material on Parity. You may not:
- Republish substantial portions of the site without permission.
- Scrape, mass-download, or otherwise harvest data from the site for commercial purposes.
- Misrepresent the site or its content (e.g., framing or impersonation).
- Use the site to harass any individual or business.
Disclaimers
Parity is provided "as is." We make no warranty that the site will be available without interruption or error-free. The contractor directory is a curated list โ listing or non-listing is not a guarantee of competence, suitability, or trustworthiness. Hiring decisions are your own responsibility.
Any decision you make based on Parity content โ including hiring or not hiring a contractor, filing or not filing a complaint, taking or not taking other action โ is your own decision. We are an information source, not a professional advisor.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Parity and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site. Direct damages, if any, are limited to the amount you have paid Parity (which, for homeowners, is zero).
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Parity from any claims arising from your Submissions, your use of the site, or your violation of these Terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any dispute arising under these terms must be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. The "Effective" date at the top will be updated when we do. Continued use of the site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
